Grades 6–8 · Capture each new word, the sentence it lived in, and what you guessed from context.
Whenever you meet a new word in your reading, pause and capture it here. First, jot the word and where you found it on the page or paragraph. Then copy the sentence it lived in — the surroundings are the strongest hint to its meaning. Guess what the word meant before you check, and finally write what it actually means once you look it up. The split between guess and verified meaning is where vocabulary sticks.
